The Holy Spirit Catholic School Division is pleased to announce that Mr. Cason Machacek has been appointed as Associate Principal of Father Leonard Van Tighem School beginning in the 2025-2026 school year.
Mr. Machacek began teaching in 2017 after completing his Bachelor of Management/Bachelor of Education at the University of Lethbridge. He is currently pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Leadership. His experience includes teaching middle school Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, and Physical Education, as well as supporting English as a second language. Most recently, he has served as Digital Wellness Teacher with Lethbridge School Division, helping students and families foster healthy, intentional relationships with technology.
Rooted in faith, Mr. Machacek draws inspiration from Matthew 25:31-40, particularly the words: “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” He shares:
“The core message, that by serving ‘the least of these,’ we are serving Christ directly, is a clear mandate for how to lead within a school community. By leading with actions that foster effective relationships, I believe in creating a school culture where every person feels seen, valued, supported, and inspired to learn.”
Beyond his dedication to building a faith-filled school community, Mr. Machacek is deeply passionate about supporting students’ spiritual growth through athletics, encouraging young athletes to lean on their faith as they develop their talents and pursue their goals. He is also a strong advocate for digital wellness, helping students and families find balance in a screen-saturated world by creating time to reconnect with their faith, families, and communities.
A former Western Hockey League player (Kootenay Ice, Lethbridge Hurricanes, Seattle Thunderbirds) and University of Lethbridge Pronghorn alumnus, Mr. Machacek brings the values of teamwork and perseverance to his leadership. He is also an enthusiastic member of the St. Martha’s Parish, serving as a Knight of Columbus Council 9280, Eucharistic Minister, and a participant in That Man is You.
Looking ahead to his new role, Mr. Machacek expressed his excitement about joining the Father Leonard Van Tighem community:
“I am eager to contribute my passion, experience, and commitments to fostering a faith-driven environment where every student is encouraged to flourish academically, athletically, spiritually, and creatively. I look forward to working alongside the dedicated staff to nurture a culture where each individual feels inspired, ignited, and engaged in their growth.”
