Carly SpoulosHoly Spirit Catholic School Division is proud to announce that Ms. Carly Spoulos, a first year teacher at St. Francis Junior High School in Lethbridge, has been selected as the division’s Edwin Parr nominee for the 2024/2025 school year. The Edwin Parr Award recognizes excellence in teachers beginning their professional careers.

Carly graduated from the University of Lethbridge in 2024 with a Bachelor of Science with distinction and a Bachelor of Education with great distinction. She completed her third practicum at St. Francis Junior High School in December 2023 and obtained her first teaching job at Medicine Hat High School, teaching Science and Forensics. In the fall of 2024, Carly returned to St. Francis, where she received her probationary contract teaching grade 8 Science and Math and options such as Art, Cosmetology and Mural painting. She also enjoys coaching volleyball and badminton, sharing her skills with students and building relationships outside of the classroom.

“Carly is an exceptional first year teacher,” states Jackie Kraemer, Principal of St. Francis Junior High School. “She brings a level of energy and genuine care for her students, consistently creating learning experiences that are meaningful and relevant to all learners. Whether she is leading students through dynamic art projects, creating murals to revitalize the school or integrating real-world connections into science and math all students feel seen, inspired and challenged. Carly is a valued coach and committed member of many of our committees.”

Deputy Superintendent Anthea Boras praises Carly for her outstanding dedication and impact in the classroom. “When I was in Carly's class, a couple of students approached me to share how much they love being in Miss Spoulos' class. In their words, “Those who don’t have a class with Miss Spoulos are envious of those who do!” Our junior high students are eager to be in her classroom—a space where all are welcomed, cherished, and encouraged to achieve their potential. Her lessons are engaging, creative, and thoughtfully designed to challenge students to work to the best of their abilities. She is a true asset to our division, and I am incredibly proud to have her represent Holy Spirit School Division at the Edwin Parr Awards Ceremony in May.”

“I am truly honoured and grateful to be the Edwin Parr Nominee for Holy Spirit Catholic School Division, as becoming a teacher has been a lifelong dream of mine,” says Carly. “The support, encouragement, and kindness from the entire St. Francis Junior High community has shaped my growth as an educator and made my first year truly special. Building positive relationships is my priority, and I am blessed to have the opportunity to connect with amazing students. My heart is fulfilled every day as I can work with students to create a welcoming space where we share ideas, embrace learning, and grow together.”

Please join the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division in congratulating Carly Spoulos on being selected as this year’s Edwin Parr nominee.
